Eradicating Poverty: the Call of the Church
In the 2012 campaign, President Obama talked about his commitment to protect "the least of these." We know the President can set bold goals in his next administration. Before his 2013 inauguration, ask President Obama to re-state his pledge made back in 2008 to work to cut domestic poverty in half by 2020.
DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA, Scripture calls for us to care for “the least of these”—those living in poverty. I believe you should work with Congress to protect those programs that provide a safety net for the most vulnerable among us and to pass effective legislation to create jobs. The well-being of millions of people and our nation is at stake. Your re-commitment to drastically reducing poverty in the U.S. will elevate the fight against poverty to the high priority it deserves and requires.
