Background Faith Perspective | Take ActionResources Programs and Organizations

"We do not wish to leave a legacy of debt to our children, nor do we believe that a legacy of poverty and underinvestment is any better." ~ Faithful Budget coalition letter to Obama and Congress

An interfaith coalition is praying and working together to protect federal programs that serve people living in poverty. This coalition has formed the "Faithful Budget" campaign. In Fall 2011, faith communities across the country united to pray and ask Congress for a just and compassionate federal budget that puts the "least of these" first. Click here to see a map of participating communities. The campaign has come to a close for 2011. Stay tuned for ways we will continue to work together for a Faithful Budget in 2012.

Last Fall, a "Super Committee" of twelve legislators was tasked with finding $1.2 trillion to cut from the federal budget by November 23. It could have impacted every federal program under the sun. They failed. Click here to see ten ways you can still make a difference in budget negotiations.

FAITHFUL BUDGET VIGILS: Click here to access worship resources.

Daily Faithful Budget vigils are being held outside the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill. They started on July 11 and continued throughout the budget/deficit negotiations until August 3. They resumed in the Fall. The worship resources we prayed with for the vigils are available for download. Click here for a collection of photos from the vigils.
